Thank you Lian Arn
1. Gathering of the People
Christians are called to gather.
- Heb 10:24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
2. Motivation to Gather
Christians are called to gather around the Word, which is God.
- John 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God… And the Word became flesh
3. Understanding the Word
It is possible to read and not understand the word. Strive to understand the word - to know Christ behind the Word.
- John 3 Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?
- Matt 22:29 But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.
- Mark 12:24 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God?
- 1Cor 2:14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
- Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ
- Romans 16:17 I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.
- Eph 4:11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
- John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
4. Effects of Understanding the Word
Understanding the word leads to weeping for our sins, rejoicing in what Christ has done and worshipping God for who he is.
- Ezk 3:23 So I got up and went, and there I saw the glory of the LORD, just as I had seen in my first vision by the Kebar River. And I fell face down on the ground.
- Luke 5:8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for dI am a sinful man, O Lord.
- Isa 6 "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty."
- James 4:8-9 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.
- Romans 7:7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
- Romans 7:9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me.
- Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
- Luke 10:17-20 The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Summary Closing
1Pet 1:24-25
“All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
Breakout
- How have you grieved the spirit this week with regards to His Word and gathering with His people?
- How do you think you have brought joy to the Father this week with regards to his Word and gather with His people?
- Pray for one another that the spirit stirs you up in the ministry of the word.
Return Worship
We often lose focus because we forget how close we are to Home. Each day brings us closer to Home.
